Caught in the Middle
“Hey Mike?”
Mike looked up, saw Shawn peering at him with a concerned look on his face, and sighed. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to talk to Shawn; Mike didn’t want to talk to anyone at the moment. He didn’t want their sympathy or their pity.
“What is it Shawn?” Mike sighed, slumping back down on his bench.
“Um…just wanted to check on how you are.”
“My finger got broke in half. How do you think I am?” Mike glanced down to his bandaged up finger and scowled slightly. “Don’t you have to get on the ice or something?”
“Well yeah, but not for little bit.” Shawn quietly sat down next to Mike and bumped him gently with an elbow. “Anything I can do to make you feel better?”
Mike managed a small smile for his friend. “Not really. Don’t worry about me, Shawn. I’ll be all right.”
“He always worries about you, midget.”
Mike’s scowl deepened as he looked up again to see who would dare call him midget in his time of pain. Upon seeing Eric, however, Mike sighed and let it go. Compared to Eric, he was kind of small…Eric, he had decided, could call him midget if he wanted.
“Well he doesn’t have to. And you don’t have to either.”
“I never said I was worried, did I?” Eric smiled kindly and sat down on Mike’s other side. Mike watched Eric for a minute, then turned to look at Shawn. And suddenly, Mike felt warm and heavy and knew that if he didn’t get up soon, something was going to happen that really shouldn’t happen in the dressing room. So Mike straightened and prepared to stand up, only to have both Eric and Shawn grab his shoulders.
“Hang on, Mikey.” Shawn grinned at him. “You certainly don’t have to be on the ice yet. Stay with us for a while. Keep us company.”
“Or let us keep you company.” Eric leaned in quickly and brushed a feathery kiss across Mike’s neck, and when Shawn did the same on his other side, Mike knew resistance was futile.
“Um…guys…here?”
Shawn giggled. “What’s wrong with right here?”
And as Shawn moved to kneel between Mike’s legs and Eric drawing him into a deep kiss, Mike really couldn’t think of a reason why.
